This modern and minimalist design provides refined and well proportioned living spaces internally, while maximising the use of the outdoor space available. There is limited west facing glazing and high levels of insulation, and although the house faces east, neighbouring buildings assist in the shading of this courtyard, providing a secluded living area for the occupants.
This tightly planned house on its suburban site provides an excellent design solution to suburban living.

Judges Comments - Energy Efficient Design Category:
This project addresses most of the design issues that impact on the energy efficiency of a residential building. The compact nature of the house, the proportions and position of the fenestration, together with levels of insulation and zoning possibilities, result in a house that will provide comfort conditions for the occupants with minimal input of external energy sources. The larger eastern windows, while ideally requiring some sunshading, appear not to have been a problem for the occupants to date.
Interestingly, it is the only project to incorporate a house energy rating and achieved 4.5 stars.
